We are a registered charity based in Germany (VR 3387) and are eligible to receive tax-deductible donations. Founded in 2000, our mission is to advance human rights, global health, and scientific progress, on the basis of the Social Charter of the Council of Europe.

Our impact: A global network

Waisenmedizin e.V. is based in Europe, with our headquarters located in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany. Our team extends across Austria, Germany, and Switzerland. To amplify our global reach and share our impact, we have been awarded a Google for Nonprofits account.

Advancing treatment for neglected tropical diseases

Waisenmedizin e.V. has been at the forefront of combating skin-related neglected tropical diseases, particularly Old World cutaneous leishmaniasis, since its inception. Our research has been widely recognised through publications in scientific journals and presentations at renowned international conferences, including the ICPIC, DNDi, Institut Pasteur, and WHO. Our contributions have also been instrumental in four doctoral research theses in collaboration with the University of Freiburg, University of Erlangen, the University of Heidelberg, and the University of Greifswald.

Waisenmedizin e.V. is actively involved in the global health community, serving as an observing member of the NNN, a member of the FAF, and a former member of the Kangaroo Group.

A significant milestone in our journey has been the receipt of special authorization from the BfArm for our wound dressing, LeiProtect®. This innovative medical device is designed to address cutaneous leishmaniasis and offers hope for improved treatment outcomes for patients in Germany and beyond.
